Free, and nearly free, outdoor activities in and around Macreddin Village

We have lined up a series of free, and low cost, pursuits and fun activities for all our residents, whether you’re on your own, with your partner or family, or in a group. Anyone wishing to make a day of it, can bring along one of our Macreddin Village Picnics, which we are delighted to prepare for you, with a little notice.

Adventure Activities

These great fun activities can be done against the clock or at your own leisure. Explanation sheets and the necessary materials are available at Reception: Cost: Free

On Yer Bike:

Go Green and cycle along one of our trails. Bikes and Helmets and maps are available from reception. (Adult Bike sizes only)

Walks (or Runs!)

Macreddin Walks:

We have four recommended walks, and a detailed sheet is available at Reception. Routes are as follows: Cost: Free

The Village Amble:

A gentle walk in the immediate Macreddin area taking in the village, golf course and Macreddin Brook.

Approximate Walking Times: Leisurely: 40 Mins. Fitness: 30 Mins

The Macreddin Triangle:

A stroll on country roads through the valley, with the odd sharpish incline, and great views of the surrounding mountains.

Approximate Walking Times: Leisurely: 70 Mins. Fitness: 50 Mins

The Sean Linehan Walk:

A decent walk down through the woods to the beautiful Sean Linehan Walk along Macreddin Brook. Don’t wear your best shoes!

Approximate Walking Times: Leisurely: 80 Mins. Fitness: 60 Mins

To The Top of Cushbawn:

Only for the experienced and energetic, but the incredible views are worth it. Bring water and your mobile phone.

Approximate Walking Time: 2 – 3 Hours

Play 9 or 18 holes on Macreddin Golf Course, described by Golf World Magazine as "Outstanding and Truly Spectacular”. Designed by Irish Ryder Cup Hero Paul McGinley, the course utilises 160 acres and incorporates all the natural elements of the landscape, including statuesque pines, well protected greens, elevated landing areas and a free flowing brook.

If you feel like kicking back and letting someone else do the hard work, we have negotiated the following rates with Aughrim Cabs, who are based just 3 kms from Macreddin.

½ day (approx 4 hours) cab hire:

  • 6 seater - €150
  • 14 seater - €200
  • 29 seater - €250

6 seater to Glendalough - €30 each way.

Pick up from nearest point on Wicklow Way (4 - 6 Pax) - €20.

Greenan Maze, Farm & Museum:

Only 8km from Aughrim, spend an enjoyable day in Greenan Farm with fun for all the family. The Solstice Maze is a relaxing, contemplative pathway for adults and toddlers, set within a large stone circle, day passes include this Tricky Celtic Maze, a range of various museums to visit and a wild nature walk alongside the animals.
